has named Bob Socia vice president, global purchasing and supply chain, effective July 1.
Socia, 55, will report to CEO Fritz Henderson. He has been executive vice president of Shanghai General Motors since 2007, after serving as managing director of GM South Africa from 2004 to 2007. He began his GM career in 1975 at the Cadillac Division in Detroit, working in both the finance and materials management areas, and subsequently worked in purchasing positions in Brazil and Europe.
A graduate of Oakland University, Socia replaces Bo Andersson, who left GM to pursue career opportunities in China.
