General Electric

received a $1.4 billion contract to provide wind turbines and services for a planned wind farm in Oregon.

General Electric plans to supply 338 turbines of 2.5 megawatts each for the $2 billion Shepherds Flat project, which is being developed by independent power producer

Caithness Energy

. The turbines will be installed in 2011 and 2012.

The Shepherds Flat station, which will generate capacity of 845 megawatts once completed, would be the largest wind facility in the world.

As part of the agreement, GE would service the generating station for 10 years.

The contract is the third-largest by value received by GE's wind business, according to the

Financial Times

.

The energy from the Shepherds Flat station will serve southern California and provide enough power for 235,000 homes.
