Silicon Image plummets after the chipmaker's earnings and guidance disappoint.

were among technology's losers Friday, plunging 22% after the chipmaker posted disappointing fourth-quarter earnings and projected first-quarter revenue below Wall Street's forecast.

The company earned $26.3 million, or 29 cents a share, for the fourth quarter. Excluding certain items, earnings were $18.3 million, or 21 cents a share, 3 cents below Thomson First Call's average analyst forecast. Revenue totaled $87 million, above Wall Street's estimate of $76.8 million. During the year-earlier quarter, the company earned $12.6 million, or 15 cents a share, on revenue of $61.4 million.

For the first quarter, Silicon Image sees revenue of $68 million to $72 million. Analysts, on average, project revenue of $73.2 million. Shares were trading down $2.76 to $9.41.

Broadcom

rose 4% after the chipmaker posted in-line fourth-quarter earnings and announced a $1 billion stock buyback plan. The company reported an adjusted profit of $184.9 million, or 31 cents a share, on revenue of $923.5 million. Analysts expected earnings of 31 cents a share and revenue of $910.5 million. During the year-earlier quarter, the company earned $196.8 million, or 34 cents a share, on revenue of $820.6 million.

Looking ahead, Broadcom predicted first-quarter revenue of $890 million to $900 million, compared with analysts' estimate of $899 million. As for the company's buyback plan, Broadcom said that it would buy stock over the next 12 to 18 months, beginning on Feb.12. Shares were trading up $1.23 to $34.90.

rose 6% after the software maker reported in-line fourth-quarter earnings and forecast 2007 earnings above analysts' forecast. The company posted adjusted earnings of $1.9 million, or 4 cents a share, on revenue of $10.3 million. Analysts expected earnings of 4 cents a share and revenue of $10.1 million. A year earlier, the company earned $1.1 million, or 3 cents a share, on revenue of $6.3 million.

For 2007, LivePerson sees adjusted earnings of 24 cents a share, with revenue of $48.5 million to $49.5 million. Analysts project earnings of 20 cents a share and revenue of $48.4 million. For the first quarter, the company anticipates adjusted earnings of 5 cents a share and revenue of $10.8 million to $10.9 million. Analysts project earnings of 4 cents a share and revenue of $10.7 million. Shares were adding 34 cents to $6.29.

BMC Software

slid 6% after the company's fourth-quarter guidance disappointed investors. For the third quarter ended Dec. 31, the company posted adjusted earnings of $85.2 million, or 41 cents a share, on revenue of $412.9 million. The results topped analysts' expectation for earnings of 38 cents a share on revenue of $402.6 million. A year earlier, BMC earned $63.2 million, or 29 cents a share, on revenue of $380.3 million.

BMC forecast fourth-quarter adjusted earnings of 36 cents to 40 cents a share, compared with analysts' average estimate of 40 cents. The company predicts revenue of $415 million to $435 million, bracketing Wall Street's estimate of $423.6 million. Shares were trading down $1.97 to $33.31.

jumped 16% after the software company's second-quarter results topped Wall Street's forecast. For the period ended Dec. 31, the company reported adjusted earnings of $18 million, or 35 cents a share. Analysts expected earnings of 28 cents a share. Open Text posted revenue of $163.3 million, beating Wall Street's target of $160.8 million. In the year-earlier period, the company earned $15.4 million, or 31 cents a share, on revenue of $110.8 million. Shares were up $3.04 to $22.58.
