Fox News co-President Bill Shine has retained the backing of the Murdoch family after the network dismissed long-time television personality Bill O'Reilly, New York Magazine reports.

Executive Co-Chairman of 21st Century Fox (FOXA) - Get Fox Corporation Class A Report Rupert Murdoch took network co-presidents Shine and Jack Abernethy to lunch this week, in a highly public show of support.

However, New York Magazine reported that privately Shine has his doubts regarding his future with the network.

Shine has reportedly told friends that he recently asked CEO James Murdoch and Executive Co-Chairman Lachlan Murdoch to release a statement in support of him, but they refused to do so.

The report continued to say that Shine has privately complained that Rupert "isn't fighting for him" in the press, which is why he wanted explicit support from the sons.

Shine denied personally going to James and Lachlan for a statement, according to a Fox News spokesperson. A Murdoch spokesperson said Shine did not directly ask for a statement.
