Koken, age 50, joins the merchandising leadership team led by Ron Boire, Best Buy's executive vice president and general merchandise manager.

Koken most recently served as vice president and general merchandise manager of home electronics at Sears. While at Sears, Koken managed all aspects of strategic planning, vendor relations, marketing, merchandising, financial planning, and training and development for the broadline retailer's electronics and entertainment division.
During his 26-year career in electronics retailing, Koken led the successful expansion of the regional electronics retailer The Wiz, later acquired by
. His responsibilities at Cablevision included merchandising, sales, operations, marketing, store design and construction and e-commerce.
On Tuesday, Best Buy shares rose $1.49 to $44.97.
