reached an agreement under which it will resell
routers and switches in one of its storage area network offerings.
Specifically, EMC will resell Cisco's MDS 9000 line of multilayer directors and fabric switches in its Connectrix SAN infrastructure products. EMC will also write software to be hosted on the MDS 9000 platform. The products will start shipping this quarter.
The two companies have collaborated for years and Cisco is already EMC's main provider of connectivity devices. Both companies have been foraging for revenue opportunities in recent months, with Cisco recently buying small-office Wi-Fi provider Linksys for $500 million and entering partnerships with software giants
within the last six months.
Cisco was recently up 11 cents, to $15.25, on the Instinet late session, after adding 16 cents during regular trading. EMC added 42 cents to close at $9.46 at 4 p.m. EDT.
