Eagle Materials Beats Earnings Estimates

The company's guidance also helps shares climb.

topped Wall Street's projections for its second-quarter earnings on Tuesday, and bullish guidance pushed shares higher in late trading.

Shares recently climbed 6% in after-hours trading, adding $2.20 to $38.90.

The Dallas-based gypsum wallboard and cement manufacturer said it earned $66.1 million, or $1.32 a share, ballooning from $43.3 million, or 80 cents a share. in the same quarter last year.

Eagle reported revenue of $256.5 million, up 16% year over year from $221.8 million.

The company beat the $1.28 a share expected by analysts for the quarter, but fell short of the top-line estimate from two analysts polled by Thomson First Call, who had pegged revenue at $282.8 million.

Looking ahead to the company's third quarter, Eagle said earnings will range from 75 cents a share to 85 cents a share, above the 73 cents a share expected by consensus. For the full year, the company maintained its guidance of $3.80 to $4.20, bracketing the $3.83 expected by analysts.
