EADS Slashes View

The latest Airbus delay takes its toll.

European Aeronautic Defence & Space delayed deliveries of its Airbus A380 superjumbo jet for another year and said the latest production setbacks would slash operating profit by some $900 million a year over four years.

The company also said it would try to cut costs by more than $6 billion by 2010. The announcement came after several big airline customers said they had been told deliveries of the big jet would be delayed for a third time, into mid-2008. Emirates airlines, which has ordered more than 40 A380s, said it would consider its options.
