The move brings the number of directors to nine and comes a month before DreamWorks Animation's next release,

The company has filed with the
Securities and Exchange Commission
to sell $500 million worth of Class A common shares. The offering is currently expected to close following the release of
"Meg is someone that both Roger Enrico and I have been courting to join our board of directors for many months," said CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg. He cited Whitman's expertise in building a global brand as well as her consumer technology experience as key reasons for her election.
Whitman has been president and CEO of eBay since March 1998 and previously was general manager of
Shares of Dreamworks Animation were down 18 cents to $39.18 in Friday trading.
