Delphi Automotive to Lay Off 1,700 Workers

Delphi Automotive

said Friday it would lay off 1,700 hourly employees, or 3% of its hourly workforce, at its New York, Michigan and Ohio facilities.

The auto parts maker said it is adjusting to meet diminished customer demand for parts, something that's not unexpected given recent actions by major auto manufacturers, which have recently furloughed employees and temporarily shut down plants across the country.

Delphi employs about 54,000 hourly employees in the United States.
