ZURICH, Switzerland (
has appointed Urs Rohner as chairman of the Swiss bank, succeeding Hans-Ulrich Doerig who will step down in April 2011.
Doerig was promoted to chairman earlier this year. He's staying on until the company's annual meeting in April 2011.
Rohner is Credit Suisse's vice chairman.
"Credit Suisse has established a very strong position in the aftermath of a very challenging period for the industry and we have a great opportunity to continue to build on our differentiated, client focused and capital efficient business model," Rohner said in a statement Thursday.
Credit Suisse exceeded analysts' expectations for the third quarter when it reported a swing to profit of 2.4 billion Swiss francs ($2.38 billion) from a year-earlier loss of 1.26 billion francs on the back of improvements in investment banking.
