, the warehouse retailer, said comparable-store sales in November rose 9%.

Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters were expecting same-store sales to increase 6.2%.

Sales for the month included those from the company's Mexico joint venture.

Comparable-store sales in the U.S. rose 7%, while international sales jumped 13%. Excluding gas price inflation and stronger foreign currencies, Costco's comparable-store sales in November rose 6%.

Net sales for November rose 12% to $6.78 billion. Without sales from its Mexico joint venture, Costco said sales would have risen 9%. The retailer began consolidating its Mexico operations beginning with fiscal 2011 on Aug. 30.

For the 13 weeks ended Nov. 28, Costco said comparable-store sales rose 7%, while total sales were $20.59 billion, an increase of 11%.
