Coldwater Creek (CWTR) soared 11% late Wednesday after the retailer beat second-quarter earnings targets.
The Sandpoint, Idaho, company made $12 million, or 13 cents a share, up from the year-ago $6.2 million, or 7 cents a share. Revenue surged 41% from a year ago to $216.4 million.
Analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial were looking for a dime-a-share profit on sales of $197 million.
Same-store sales rose 13.3% from a year ago. Gross margin improved by 350 basis points and operating margin rose by 230 basis points, Coldwater said.
Net sales from the retail segment, which includes the company's premium retail stores and resort and outlet stores, rose 52.3% from a year ago to $143.8 million. Direct segment net sales rose 23.4% to $72.6 million. Internet net sales rose 30.1% to $49.9 million. Catalog net sales rose 10.8% to $22.7 million.
Shares rose $2.78 to $27.91.
