Cisco Systems Inc. (CSCO) - Get Report announced that CEO Chuck Robbins will serve as the head of the company's board after current board chairman John Chambers told the company he will not seek reelection for his position last week.
The move will be made official at the company's annual meeting December 11.
Chambers has served as the company's executive chairman since 2015 after serving as the company's CEO from 1995 to 2015.
"John's brilliant mind, compassion and charismatic leadership have helped shape Cisco for over 20 years, and for that we are all grateful," Robbins said of Chambers. "John's influence on the industry is immense and he built Cisco around a culture of integrity and innovation that will continue to serve our employees, partners and customers for decades to come.
Chambers will be given the honorary title of Chairman Emeritus once he steps down.
