Chrysler Group's head of sales and marketing plans to step down as the automaker continues to grapple with big sales declines.
The U.S. unit of
said Tuesday that Joe Eberhardt plans to focus on automotive retailing within the Mercedes-Benz division in the U.S.
All of Chrysler's sales and marketing executives will now report to Chrysler Group CEO Tom LaSorda.
In a press release, Chrysler said Eberhardt has been talking about returning to the retail world, where he spent several years with Daimler's Mercedes-Benz division. His departure, however, comes as Chrysler Group has been
weighing on its parent company's results. The U.S. business recorded an operating loss of $1.48 billion in the third quarter.

, Eberhardt faced pressure from dealers, who reportedly said he pressured them to order more vehicles to help take down Chrysler's inventory.
