Women's apparel retailer
Christopher & Banks
posted a decline in a key December sales measure.
The company said same-store sales, those at stores open for at least a year, dropped by 7% for the month. Its total sales were up 7% to $55.1 million from $51.4 million in the same month last year.
"As we previously indicated, we anticipate that a calendar shift will have a positive impact on January same-store sales," said Chairman and Chief Executive Bill Prange in a statement. "Last year, Dec. 26 and 27 were included in the company's fiscal December, whereas this year those two days are included in fiscal January."
For the 10 months ended Dec. 25, 2004, total sales rose 10% to $374.7 million from $341.8 million in the prior-year period, while same-store sales declined 4%.
Christopher & Banks, based in Minneapolis, Minn., and operating 648 stores, will provide earnings guidance for its fourth quarter ending Feb. 26, when January sales results are released on Feb. 3.
