NEW YORK (
online banking system still does not seem to be working at full capacity.
The New York banking titan's online banking site -- www.chase.com -- has been out for much of the week and still wasn't working properly as of 4pm EST today. The company estimates it has 16.6 million customers who use online services.
Apparently the reason for the outage was a technical issue that has since been addressed, a company spokesman said.
But after four tries, this reporter gave up. (Full Disclosure: I tried one more time to log in at 4:40 pm EST and got in, but was not able to complete any transactions. I was then logged out by the system).
JPMorgan will apparently refund customers for any late fees paid as a result of the outage, according to a company spokesperson added.
Chairman and CEO
apologized for the outage on Tuesday during a lunchtime presentation to investors at the Barclays Global Financial Services Conference.
JPMorgan shares closed up 0.6% to $40.98 on Wednesday on lower than average volume of 24.6 million shares.
