Celera Genomics


, a unit of PE Corp., has been trying to map and understand the human genome for some time now.

Today, the company said it has sequenced 9.3 billion base pairs (the essential letters of genetic code that dictate what grows where and how) for three different types of mice. The company's hopes this new-found understanding of the mouse genome will give it an edge in understanding how the human genome works.
