said same-store sales rose a slightly better-than-expected 3.7% across its restaurant groups in April, helped by solid results at Chili's.

By segment, April same-store sales rose 4.8% from a year ago at Chili's; 4.3% at On the Border; and 3.3% Maggiano's. They fell 1.5% from a year ago at Macaroni Grill.

For the current fourth quarter, Brinker expects to earn 67 cents to 68 cents a share, compared with the Thomson First Call consensus of 67 cents a share.

The stock closed at $35.34 Wednesday, down 35 cents, or 1%.
