said Friday the costs of responding to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico have risen to $2.35 billion.
BP said in a statement on its Web site that to date almost 74,000 claims have been filed and more than 39,000 payments have been made, totaling almost $126 million.
BP earlier this month put together a package of measures, including the creation of a $20 billion fund, to fulfill certain obligations arising from the oil and gas spill.
Oil has been flowing out of a busted well since an oil rig exploded on April 20.
BP said Friday it has recovered so far about 364,500 barrels of oil with its containment systems.
