Bombay stocks plunged again Tuesday, dropping below 10,000 for the first time since Feb. 17.
The BSE Sensex dropped 256 points to close at 9,957. The index has lost 20% in the last month and is down 21% from its May 11 peak.
Tuesday's losers included
Grasim
, which fell 4.9%,
Hindalco
, down 4.2%, and
Ranbaxy

Only three of the index's 30 components rose, led by

, which rose 3.2%.
Patni Computer Systems
shed 2% even as it was reported that the company acquired ZAiQ Technologies of the U.S.
Thermax
declined 5.3% despite orders for power plants in Tamil Nadu, Kolkata and Andhra Pradesh with a total generating capacity of 108 MW.
