Bombay stocks capped off a strong week with a modest gain Friday.

The BSE Sensex rose 12 points to close at 12,359. The move came at the end of a week in which the index rose 4.3% and set yet another all-time high Thursday.

Top gainers on the index were

L&T

, up 3.6%,

ONGC

, up 3%, and

Hero Honda

, up 2.6%.

Major laggards on the index were

ICICI Bank

, which lost 3.3% ,

HLL

, which fell 2.7%, and

Tata Power

, which sank 2.3%.

SAIL

surged 4.5% on a strong outlook and reports that the company will build cement plants with ACC, Birla and Jaiprakash Associates.

Apollo Tyres

declined 4.2% despite a 44% latest-quarter earnings gain.

MTNL

, the government-owned telecom giant, was up 1.6% on news of its plans to expand its cellular mobile sevices.

Dishman Pharmaceuticals & Chemicals

surged 10%. The company has completed US FDA inspection for one of its facility to make Eprosartan Mesylate, an anti hyper-tension drug, to be supplied to Solvay Pharmaceuticals.
