BOMBAY -- Bombay stocks fell 2.2% Monday, as emerging markets continue to encounter heavy selling.

The Sensex dropped 238 to close at 10,213.

Leading the decline were

ACC

, which slid 5.5%,

Hindalco

, down 5.1%,

Tata Steel

, down 4.5%, and

Satyam

(SAY)

, down 4.2%.

Gainers included

L&T

, which rose 3.3%, and

HDFC

, up 1.9%.

SAIL

rose 0.75% on the news that it is making a large investment to increase its iron ore production from the existing 15 million tons to 25 million tons by 2012.

Tata Consultancy Services

dipped 1.2% despite news that the company is expecting 300 global deals in 2006-07.
