and Etihad Airways Friday confirmed the Abu Dhabi carrier's order for five 777-300ER jetliners valued at $1.09 billion at list price.

The airplanes will be delivered in 2005, starting in October, and will be used for the airline's expansion to new routes in Asia, Africa, Europe and North America.

Etihad Airways has been in operation for just over a year.

Boeing shares rose $1.13, or 2.2%, to $53.21.
