said Chairman and Chief Executive Stewart K. Owens resigned for personal reasons, effective immediately.
The Columbus, Ohio, restaurant owner named Robert E.H. Rabold chairman and appointed Larry C. Corbin interim CEO and president. Rabold has been a member of the board since 1994 and has served as the company's lead independent director.
Corbin retired in July 2004 from Bob Evans as executive vice president of the company's restaurant operations and has been on the board since 1981.
Bob Evans plans to release its first-quarter results after the market closes on Aug. 15.
Owens' resignation was announced Tuesday after the markets closed. Just hours before, the company said same-store sales in its Bob Evans restaurants in July fell 0.7% from a year ago.
Shares of Bob Evans were up $1.01, or 4%, to $25.90 on Wednesday.
