posted a 7% rise in May same-store sales, at the top of its target, as blended beverage offerings and strong food sales helped to boost results.
The coffee powerhouse reported total May sales of $613 million, up 23% from $496 million a year earlier.
"The strength of both new and returning blended beverage flavors, combined with our store partners' exemplary ability to consistently deliver the Starbucks Experience, allowed us to achieve the high end of our comparable store sales growth target range," said President and CEO Jim Donald in a statement. Starbucks' same-store sales targets call for 3% to 7% growth over the long term.
So far this year, Starbucks has opened 1,297 stores worldwide. The company's store count stood at 11,538 as of May 28.
