American Association of Individual Investors'

sentiment survey released on Thursday morning showed a big spike in bearish sentiment. For the week ended March 21, bearish sentiment came in at 47.2%, its highest level since Dec. 21, 2000. The week before, bearish sentiment stood at 36.4%. Bullish sentiment, meanwhile, fell to 27.8% during the week ended March 21, from 30.9% the week before. Investors who consider themselves neutral came in at 25% during the week ended March 21, significantly lower than the week before.

During the week ended March 21, the

Nasdaq

was down 7.2%, the

Dow

was off 4.9% and the

S&P 500

was down 3.8%.
