Baker Hughes, a GE Co. (BHI) , which completed its merger with General Electric Co. (GE) - Get Report last month, won a contract to develop the first offshore gas in the southwestern Pacific country of Papua New Guinea.

The contract is worth several hundred million dollars, according to Reuters, with BHGE providing Australian exploration and production firm Twinza for the development of the Pasca A gas-condensate field.

The company will help develop the initial stages of well-drilling and appraisal through to production and gas processing, executives from the two companies said.
