AT&T's (T) - Get AT&T Inc. Report wireless, wireline and DirecTV workers across 36 states represented by the Communications Workers of America union began a 3-day strike Friday after failing to negotiate a labor agreement with the company.

"A strike is in no one's best interest, and it's baffling as to why union leadership would call one when we're offering terms in which our employees in these contracts ... will be better off financially," an AT&T spokesman told Reuters. The strike involves less than 14% of AT&T's workforce, the company said.

AT&T shares closed Friday trading up 0.74% to $38.23 per share.
