
Apple Expands Patent Claims, Vodafone May Buy Cable & Wireless: Hot Trends

as the tech titan has expanded patent infringement claims against
Samsung
, claiming its competitor violates four of Apple's patents.
The patents pertain to data tapping, word placement, the voice-command personal assistant Siri and the "swipe to unlock" function. Apple is asking courts to block the alleged infringement in several of Samsung's smartphones.
According to Samsung, which defends itself against Apple's claims, the two companies have filed at least 30 lawsuits against one another. Apple's lawsuit is set for a hearing on May 2.
Vodafone

is also trending as the mobile phone company has confirmed it is mulling an offer for Britain's
Cable & Wireless Worldwide

Cable & Wireless has a fixed-line network that could be used by mobile operators to boost bandwidth and ease highly-used wireless networks. Some reports indicate Vodafone is considering a 700 million pounds ($1.1 billion) bid for Cable & Wireless. If the company were to make an offer, Vodafone said it would likely be in cash.
Vodafone Group is the world's largest mobile operator by revenue.
(GOOG) - Get Report
is another hot topic as the company has suspended new prepaid Google Wallet cards for an unspecified length of time.
Google made the move after hackers made two attacks on Google Wallet last week, finding security loopholes in the mobile payment device.
Boeing
(BA) - Get Report
is a popular search after reporting that global airlines will need 33,500 new planes by 2030 to meet demand.
About 35% of the planes, valued at $4 trillion, would be needed for the Asia-Pacific region. Boeing said Asia-Pacific carriers will need 11,450 new carriers, worth about $1.5 trillion, with most of them being single-aisle aircraft seating 90 to 200 passengers.
According to Boeing, the world's passenger fleet is expected to reach more than 39,500 planes by 2030. It stood at 19,410 in 2010.
Boeing said it plans to ramp up production of its single-aisle 737 MAX to meet demand, and is considering other developments as well.
