Crude oil supplies increased by 8.9 million barrels during the week ended March 23, the

reported Tuesday evening. Analysts were expecting an increase of 1.2 million barrels, according to a

poll. Total supplies of crude oil now stand at 302.6 million barrels, 13 million barrels higher than a year ago.

For the same period ended March 23, distillate stocks (heating oil and diesel fuel) fell by about 450,000 barrels. Analysts were looking for a drop of 1.8 million barrels. Supplies are now at 110.36 million barrels, an 8.3 million-barrel surplus compared to a year ago.
