Troubled apparel retailer
said Cynthia Harriss has resigned as president of its namesake chain.
The company named Marka Hansen, president of its Banana Republic brand, as president of Gap North America. Hansen will report directly to Bob Fisher, interim president and CEO.
Harriss' departure comes just over a week after Paul Pressler stepped down as president and CEO after being unable to stop a two-year-long sales slide. Harriss had been connected to Pressler since they both previously worked together at
The Gap chain, along with the company's Old Navy brand, has had a prolonged sales slump as it struggles to find the right mix of merchandise. The company's Banana Republic brand, however, has shown some sales improvement in recent months.
Gap didn't say who would replace Hansen as the head of Banana Republic.
"During the past twenty years, Marka has developed a unique blend of deep merchandising expertise, extensive leadership experience and a real appreciation for the company's culture and creative heritage," Fisher said in a statement.
