Amazon to Increase Kindle Royalties
NEW YORK (
) --
Amazon
(AMZN) - Get Report
announced that it will offer magazine and newspaper publishers 70% royalty terms for Kindle subscriptions beginning December 1. The deal will give publishers a larger share of revenue from each title they sell in the Kindle store.
Amazon hopes higher royalties will persuade publishers to offer more electronic editions on the Kindle.
"We are constantly working at improving the Kindle magazine and newspaper experience for both customers and publishers," Kindle periodicals director Peter Larsen said. "Building on the recent introduction of Wi-Fi enabled Kindles and the upcoming availability of newspapers and magazines on Kindle apps, we're pleased to add an increased revenue share and a great new tool for making Kindle better and easier than ever for publishers."
Royalties will increase to 70% from about 30% and will be available for publishers that make their titles available on all Kindle ebook devices in all locations where the publisher has distribution rights.
Blog publishers will continue to receive 30% of the gross revenue.
