During its 48-hour Prime Day event this week, Amazon (AMZN) made $7.16 billion in total sales according to an early estimate by Internet Retailer.
That figure represents an increase of 71% from the $4.19 billion sold during Amazon's 36-hour Prime Day in 2018.
Amazon doesn't release specific sales figures from the event, but said in a press release that Prime members purchased more than 175 million items in the two-day period, and that total sales surpassed last year's Black Friday and Cyber Monday combined.
Other than Amazon itself, other major retailers, such as Target (TGT) and Walmart (WMT) , saw a significant bump in their online sales during Prime Day. Large retailers with annual revenues over $1 billion saw a 68% lift in revenue across the two days, according to Adobe Analytics.
Amazon shares closed 0.71% lower on Thursday and are up 33% year to date.
