NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Even though gas prices are low, time is still money. Having to visit the pump less can save you both.

So, if you're in the market for a new car, truck or SUV, you should consider makes and models that get good gas mileage. New federal regulations, years of high gas prices and a dawning environmental awareness among many Americans has led to manufacturers giving buyers a lot of options.

The 2015 fuel economy guide from the U.S. Environmental Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy rates the gas mileage of most vehicles in the U.S. We highlighted which ones in each class do the worst.

For reference, today, March 26, the average price of a gallon of gas in the U.S. is national gas costs about $2.42. A year ago, it was more than a dollar more expensive.

Below are the cars and trucks with the worst fuel efficiency for 13 vehicle categories from two-seater cars to minivans. There are ties in several categories, such as subcompact cars and large cars, meaning that there are 17 vehicles to watch for. TheStreet left out purely electric cars. Some diesel vehicles were included in the list.
