15 Gas-Guzzling SUVs and Pickups with the Worst Gas Mileage
NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Though the weather is still mild in many areas of the country, consumers should be assessing their winter driving needs now, specifically which cars and trucks will safely get them through snow, ice and other hazardous conditions -- without breaking the bank.
The good news is that gas prices this year are down 28% nationally from last year, according to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report. Filling up the gas tank for your 8-seater Cadillac Escalade will cost you a heck of a lot less than it did in 2014, but it will still take a bite out of the monthly budget.
For instance, the Mercedes-Benz AMG G63, with its 8-cylinder engine, has the power to barrel through even the toughest winter storms, but it gets just 13 miles to the gallon and its annual fuel cost is estimated at a whopping $3,200, according to the Web site, Fueleconomy.gov, a joint venture between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy.
Consumers, of course, will have to weigh their need for safety as well whether their budget can handle the price tag and other expenses related to owning the vehicles.
TheStreet sorted through the preliminary 2016 fuel economy guide by looking for sport-utility vehicles and pick-up trucks with the worst gas mileage.
Note: The EPA estimated annual fuel cost assuming 15,000 miles of travel each year and an average price of $2.33 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline and $2.76 per gallon for premium unleaded gasoline.
