New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge

333 Adams St, Brooklyn 11201

Driving from Manhattan over New York City's iconic Brooklyn Bridge to Brooklyn -- what some have called the "Borough of Trees" -- is an event unto itself. Once you arrive, the road before you from Borough Hall at the bridge's foot to historic Prospect Park about a mile and a half away is the main artery of commerce and life for Brooklynites. Nestled between two of its signature neighborhoods, Brooklyn Heights and Fort Greene, is the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge, King County's largest hotel and one of the top places to stay in New York City.

This Marriott property is a family friendly environment for that big trip to the Big Apple with the little ones.

The amenities for parents include laundry facilities (you don't really need them until you really need them-and then you'll be grateful), and both babysitting services and in-room childcare (both for a fee). But, the big family friendly highlight here is the indoor, four-lane lap pool attached to the nearly 2,000 square-foot health club -- with a 24-hour fitness center (overlooking the pool) when you want to blow off some steam while your better half splashes around with the kids.

Don't forget to grab a complimentary copy of the New York Times in the lobby. You can wrestle with the crossword puzzle while the little ones play Marco Polo. After you're done, run them ragged at Brooklyn Bridge Park or the New York Transit Museum, both within walking distance of the hotel. Also worth a visit is Prospect Park (a 20 minute walk or a 4-minute cab ride away), designed by legendary landscape architects Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux.

The New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge has undergone a recent, property-wide renovation. Last May, Marriott updated the lobby spaces, lounges, and the front desk; last September, Marriott upgraded the ballroom and meeting spaces. And, as of January of this year, Marriott renovated all 667 guest rooms. Hotel management has also made efforts to make this a supremely Brooklyn experience, too, by swapping out Starbucks coffee for Brooklyn Roasting Company coffee, and featuring Williamsburg's Brooklyn Winery selections at the concierge lounge and at the bar.

The New York Marriott at Brooklyn Bridge stands out for two big reasons: impeccable cleanliness and overall safety. But, proximity to Manhattan (10 minutes by subway) and easy parking for the family SUV are two very, very close thirds. One of the biggest mental hurdles for visitors to New York City is logistics, which are multiplied when you're bringing your entire family. But, this Marriott's property's kid-friendly amenities and unequivocal convenience wipe away a lot of that anxiety.
