Cuban President Raul Castro appeared eager to promote better relations with the U.S., according to U.S. senator from Vermont Patrick Leahy (D-VT).

Leahy and other congressional members completed a three-day trip to Cuba on Wednesday, and met with the Cuban leader Tuesday evening.

Castro distributed signed copies of a speech expressing his desire to negotiate with President Donald Trump.

Castro expressed his willingness to maintain market-oriented internal reforms and to continue to mend ties with Washington.
