Cryptocurrencies are being more widely accepted and are perceived by many as having more potential value. Many of the highest-paid professional athletes are now requesting that their salaries and other compensation be paid in cryptocurrency.

Others are making endorsements and sponsorship deals, some directly with crypto exchanges, and are being paid in cryptocurrencies.

While the majority of these players are NFL pros, the list is growing to include NBA players and professional soccer players. In some cases, such as with Paris Saint-Germain soccer star Lionel Messi, payments are in the form of 'fan tokens' created by the team.

Recently, the NBA team Sacramento Kings' owner Vivek Ranadive announced that in the near future, anyone in the organization (players, coaches, and staff members) who wants to will be able to receive a portion (or all) of their salary in bitcoin.

Another sign of a crypto transformation in the sports world is MLB team Oakland Athletics and The Dallas Mavericks of the NBA owned by Mark Cuban are beginning to accept bitcoin for game tickets and merchandise.
