Jefferies analyst Hyunwoo Doh warned today that Intel's (INTC) - Get Report latest product could be bad news for conventional DRAM and NAND memory chips.

Intel's new product called "Optane," a hard drive based on 3D Xpoint chips, was announced on Sunday and developed with Micron Technology (MU) - Get Report.

The devices are are up to 77 times faster than NAND chips, Doh noted.

By improving performance, it's possible that Optane and other 3D Xpoint products will take away the need for both DRAM and NAND, Doh wrote.
