losers Friday, tumbling 14% after the retailer posted a wider-than-anticipated third-quarter loss and gave a fourth-quarter forecast below Wall Street's expectation.

For the period ended Oct. 28, the company reported a loss of $11.7 million, or 53 cents a share, on revenue of $215.4 million. Analysts polled by Thomson First Call expected a loss of 45 cents a share and revenue of $215.2 million. In the year-earlier quarter, the company recorded a loss of $2.7 million, or 12 cents a share, on revenue of $200.7 million.

Cost Plus predicts fourth-quarter earnings of 84 cents to $1.03 a share, with revenue of $393 million to $408 million. Analysts project earnings of $1.09 a share and revenue of $395 million. Shares were trading down $1.92 to $11.48.

slid 4% after the jam and jelly maker's second-quarter results missed Wall Street's expectation. For the period ended Oct. 31, the company earned $45.6 million, or 80 cents a share, on revenue of $605 million. Excluding items, the company earned $47.4 million, or 83 cents a share. Analysts expected earnings of 85 cents a share, before items, and revenue of $613.5 million. During the year-earlier period, the company earned $46.4 million, or 79 cents a share, on revenue of $606.3 million. Shares were down $1.94 to $45.36.

Ann Taylor

fell 7% after the women's clothing retailer turned in mixed third-quarter results. For the period ended Oct. 28, the company earned $39.3 million, or 54 cents a share, on revenue of $566.3 million. Analysts expected earnings of 52 cents a share and revenue of $573.2 million. During the year-earlier quarter, the company earned $30.3 million, or 42 cents a share, on revenue of $514 million.

Looking ahead, Ann Taylor sees full-year adjusted earnings of $2.13 to $2.18 a share, up from an earlier forecast of $2.11 to $2.16 a share. Analysts project earnings of $2.16 a share. The company predicted that fourth-quarter same-store sales will be flat. Shares were trading down $2.68 to $37.

jumped 9% after the clothing retailer reported better-than-expected third-quarter results and boosted its full-year earnings forecast. For the quarter ended Oct. 28, the company earned $2.8 million, or 20 cents a share, on revenue of $87.1 million. Analysts expected earnings of 16 cents a share on revenue of $84.3 million. A year earlier, the company earned $2.6 million, or 18 cents a share, on revenue of $69.9 million.

Citi Trends now sees fiscal 2006 earnings of $1.43 to $1.47 a share. In August, the company forecast earnings per share of $1.37 to $1.41. Analysts project earnings of $1.41 a share. For fiscal 2007, the company sees earnings of $1.73 to $1.77 a share, ahead of the $1.72 a share that analysts project. Shares were trading up $3.94 to $46.66.

For the period ended Oct. 28, the company earned $9.9 million, or 31 cents a share, up from $8.2 million, or 24 cents a share, a year earlier. Analysts, on average, expected earnings of 28 cents a share. Revenue rose to $129.7 million from $110.6 million, beating analysts' forecast of $124.9 million.

For the fourth quarter, Hibbett sees earnings of 34 cents to 38 cents a share. Analysts forecast earnings of 34 cents a share. Shares were trading up $2.63 to $32.25.
