) -- Nothing better than a cup of Joe and an Angus beef burger to get the masses spending. Indeed, McDonald's is reaping the rewards from new products in these categories, as same-store sales grew 2.2% in August.

Likewise, comparable sales were up across nearly all regions, jumping 1.7% in the U.S. and 3.5% in Europe.

In the U.S. the new Angus Third Pounders and McCafe espresso-based coffees were the strong sellers, while Europe sales were boosted by promotions.

The Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa region, however, reported a slight 0.5% decline, dragged down by poor performance in China and Japan.

Shares of the company were slipping 1% to $55.50 in pre-market trading Wednesday.
