Shares of Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. (CMG) surged nearly 10% in after-hours trading Wednesday following the company's latest financial results.
Chipotle gained $50.94 to $577 in after-hours action.
The company reported diluted earnings per share of $1.15 a share on sales of $1.2 billion. Adjusted earnings per share were $1.72.
The company had been expected to report earnings of $1.40 a share on sales of $1.2 billion, based on a FactSet survey of 32 analysts. In the same period a year ago the company posted earnings of $1.34 a share on sales of $1.1 billion, according to FactSet data.
The stock has risen 24.3% since the company last reported earnings on Oct. 25.
The company reported same-store sales rose 6.1% over the same period last year.
Digital sales rose 65.6% to account for nearly 13% of all sales.
