beat Wall Street's expectations for the latest third quarter and said it was comfortable with fourth-quarter guidance, even though the company continues to be cautious about the holiday season.

Net income for the latest third quarter rose to $43.6 million, or 43 cents a share, compared with adjusted net income of $39.1 million, or 36 cents a share, for the same period a year ago. Analysts expected the company to earn 41 cents a share for the quarter, according to

Sales rose 28% to $366.9 million from $287 million last year. Same-store sales fell 3% in the quarter, after rising 11% last year.

The retailer said it was particularly happy with the performance of the women's business and is comfortable with fourth-quarter earnings guidance of 84 cents a share.
