Carvana dealership.

Carvana Co. (CVNA) investors had a great day Monday after the lightly traded used car e-commerce platform blew past its record high of $26.07, rising 15.5% to $27.03.

The company traded higher on nearly three times its normal volume as strong March retail sales were bolstered by strength in auto sales.

Auto sales 0.2% in March, helping overall retail sales rise 0.6% last month, ahead of economists' consensus 0.4% growth expectations.

Auto sales in March were the best they've been since last September, according to the Commerce Department.
