3 New Star Wars Toys That Are Flying Off Shelves
NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- On Force Friday, some of the new Star Wars: Force Awakens toys were virtually gone in seconds as collectors raced to secure their latest score and fans bought a memento.
"The crowds and excitement were not unlike what we see in a typical store on Black Friday," said a spokesman at Target (TGT) - Get Report via email. In a first-time move for Target, it unveiled a one-stop Star Wars shop that brought together all of the movie-themed merchandise across numerous categories into a designated spot within the store.
Dedicated Star Wars shops were also a tactic employed by Toys R' Us, which doubled the amount of Star Wars-themed products in its stores to satisfy the rush of shoppers on Force Friday. "We are putting a flag in the ground as establishing ourselves as destination for Star Wars," said Richard Barry, executive vice president and chief global merchandising officer for Toys "R" Us, in an interview.
The company's merchandising efforts looked to have paid dividends, as it was already working with suppliers to bring in more merchandise to restock shelves.
Mattel's (MAT) - Get Report Hot Wheels brand had two new character cars based on Force Awakens available on Force Friday, one inspired by Star Wars' stormtroopers and the other Darth Vader. That is in addition to Star Wars-related Hot Wheels playsets and car multi-packs already already in the market.
"People have responded extremely well to the character cars and playsets," said senior vice president and GM of Hot Wheels Chris Down. "We expected that our assortments of Star Wars vehicles and playsets were going to go pretty fast after the midnight openings, based on the performance we have had this year with Force Awakens product."
TheStreet runs down three of the top-selling Star Wars toys that may be hard to find at retail stores right now.
1. Hasbro Star Wars Black Series Action Figure
According to a Toys R' Us spokesman, among the most popular items at its Times Square flagship store, and others worldwide, was Hasbro's (HAS) - Get Report Black Series 31-inch Star Wars action figure, as well as the toy manufacturer's smaller 3.75-inch action figure (pictured above). The 31-inch and 3.75 inch action figures sell for $25.97 and $11.50, respectively, depending on the retailer.
They may have been in hot demand in stores, but could still be found online at retailers like Wal-Mart (WMT) - Get Report .

The intense interest might be a good sign of the health of the U.S. consumer. This particular Lego set retails for a whopping $149.99. It's currently out of stock on the websites of Toys R' Us and Wal-Mart.

3. Funko Star Wars POP Figure

Many of the Funko products featuring Star Wars characters such as Yoda and Luke Skywalker are still available online.
