Week 9 Waiver Wire: Quarterbacks

There's a difference between fantasy football and football in "reality." In reality, Sam Darnold had one of the worst statistical games on record in Week 7 and then followed it up by getting sacked eight times in Week 8.

The Jets are 1-6 and have one of the worst records in the NFL.

Same city, different team. Giants rookie Daniel Jones has at least one turnover in his last five games and threw for more than 225 yards in just two of his six starts. The Giants are 2-5 and riding on a four game losing streak.

Yet here we are telling fantasy managers to pickup the New York quarterbacks off your Week 9 Waiver Wire.

There's four teams on a bye in Week 9; Saints, Falcons, Rams, Bengals. Three of those teams (sorry Andy Dalton) have a viable starter in all fantasy formats. Plus we still don't the status of Patrick Mahomes. That's potentially four fantasy teams all looking for a streamer in Week 9 and maybe even longer.

Let's start with Darnold. Before scoring a seemingly impossible NEGATIVE six points against the Patriots, "mono-man" scored 23 points against the Cowboys thanks to 338 yards and two touchdowns. This past weekend the Jets second year passer had 218 yards and two touchdowns (while getting sacked three times and throwing three interceptions). But things are about to improve for Darnold thanks to a cupcake schedule the next six weeks. Starting in Week 9 the Jets take on the Dolphins, Giants, Redskins, Raiders, Bengals, and Dolphins again in the next six games. Dolphins, Raiders, Bengals are all in the Bottom 7 for fantasy points to QBs and the Redskins and Giants are in the bottom half of the league according to our partners at FantasySP.

As for Daniel Jones, he actually has a similar schedule considering the NFC East and AFC East play each other this season. Jones could be a great stash for anyone already sitting on top of their standings. The Giants passer has perhaps the easiest fantasy playoff schedule for any passer. During Weeks 14-16, Jones takes on the Eagles, Dolphins and Redskins.

Darnold has a good matchup but I'm not sold. He's been terrible on the road in his career.
