Three out of Four Home Teams Advance
The second round of the NFL playoffs was filled with exciting action, some historic plays, but only one upset. The Bills, Chiefs, and Packers, all home favorites in the Divisional Round, advanced to their Conference Championships. But the Saints, favored by three points at home, lost outright, giving the Buccaneers the ticket to Lambeau Field for the NFC Championship game and Tom Brady's 14th career Conference Championship appearance.
It wouldn't be the playoffs without some drama mixed in. On Saturday the Ravens had the ball inside the Bills five-yard line and instead of tying the game, Lamar Jackson threw an interception that was returned 101 yards the other way for a touchdown. On Baltimore's ensuing possession, Jackson was knocked out of the game with a concussion. Truly a series of unfortunate events for Baltimore fans. But for members of the Bills mafia who haven't seen their team play in the Conference Title game since 1993, it was merely about time the ball is bouncing in their direction.
Jackson wasn't the only star quarterback knocked out of action. Patrick Mahomes also suffered a concussion and despite a narrow lead, Chad Henne complete six of his eight passes and helped the Chiefs keep the Browns at bay. Kansas City now hosts their third consecutive AFC Conference Championship game, an AFC playoff record. Head Coach Andy Reid also hosted three consecutive Conference Titles during his time in Philadelphia.
