It can be hard to drum up enthusiasm for March on the retail calendar.

It can be hard to drum up enthusiasm for March on the retail calendar. Not many sales, exciting deals or holidays in sight. Easter has typically been a shaky bet when it comes to consumer spending, rarely turning out impressive numbers. So as the weather starts to get warmer and you're tempted back onto the high street again, check out the deal items that are actually worth buying. Like wrapping paper after Christmas, chocolate after Valentine's day is a good buy. Eventually the Valentine's chocolates will give way to Easter eggs but dealers like Godiva have price drops of around 40 percent in March to clear overstock. Seasonal items are always a cheap investment out of season. If you've got the storage space get your cut price cashmere for next year right now. National Frozen Food Month kicks off in March as supermarkets attempt to clear stock with lower prices. If you're a seasonal shopper you can also find good deals on fresh broccoli, cauliflower, kale, grapefruit and oranges which are all in season at the moment. The Mobile World Congress took place this month, labeling a whole lot of smart phones as old news. The release of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and updates to various Android devices means great deals on older handset models after April 10th. So don't lock yourself into a new phone contract before then. It doesn't have to be a month of spring cleaning when there are still plenty of bargains to be found.
