Electric trucks featuring EPA-approved small spark-ignition engines and topped with delivery drones could soon be delivering packages in residential neighborhoods, said Steve Burns, CEO of AMP Electric Vehicles. Burns added that UPS has already purchased some of AMP's trucks, although without the drones. He said AMP Electric Vehicles manufactures electric drive systems for medium-duty, class 3-6 commercial truck platforms and the company is currently talking to the U.S. Postal Service. Finally, Burns said the E-GEN Truck incorporates a small emergency generator that automatically turns on to recharge the battery pack only if the pack's state of charge falls below a predetermined threshold, the drive selector is in 'Park,' and the key is out.
